Paddling the Ivalo River – The Gold River's Sandy Shores

The treasures of the Ivalo River are its gold and its gleaming sandy beaches. On this relaxed paddling trip, we explore the beautiful riverbanks of the lower Ivalo River.

We paddle downstream in kayaks, enjoy the unhurried pace, and stop to rest on handpicked sandy beaches along the way. During the breaks, you're welcome to take a refreshing dip or simply unwind on the natural sandy beach. This trip is a safe and confidence-inspiring way to get out on the water. You'll receive as much support and guidance as you need, whether you're a first-timer or have a little paddling experience already.

On this morning trip, we paddle on stable touring kayaks from Ivalo River Camping downstream to the village of Ivalo, finishing at the riverbank of Hotel Kultahippu. Before setting out, we'll go through the equipment and cover the basics of paddling and water safety. During the trip, we paddle approximately 10 km.

No prior paddling experience is required, though a reasonable level of fitness will help you enjoy the time on the water. Please note that participants must be able to swim and must be at least 15 years of age. Participants under 18 may only join when accompanied by a guardian or with written permission from a guardian.

What to bring: Dress for the weather in suitable outdoor clothing, and pack a change of clothes in case you get wet. Bring sunglasses, a hat, something to drink, and a snack if you'd like. A swimsuit and towel are also worth packing. Shoes may get wet when landing onshore, so we recommend bringing a separate pair of light, water-friendly footwear for paddling.

What's included: Guide services, kayak, and all paddling equipment. On request, we can also lend you a dry bag for spare clothes, a waterproof phone case, and a sunglass strap.

Please note that the return journey to the starting point is not included in the price. The distance between the start and finish points by road is four kilometres. You can reach the starting point from Ivalo by bus in the morning (departing the bus station at 8:05 AM), or alternatively return to the starting point after the trip (departing the bus station at 1:00 PM). The River Camping bus stop is Kerttuoja E.
